Reading and Literacy
The YMCA d’Haiti has instituted a literacy program for adults who cannot read and write. The literacy program empowers adults and provides them with essential skills that promote the acquisition or improvement of reading and writing skills.
Programs are conducted in French or Creole and are divided into three levels for those who meet the following criteria:
1. All participants must first undergo a test to determine their learning level
2. Each participant must undergo a quarterly review.
3. All learners must pass a final exam to move to the next level.
The Reading and Literacy Program facilitates the YMCA penetration in the communities. In 2017, more schools bring their students in the YMCA to use our library and our reading rooms. They were 1,300 readers in 2017.
